Subset

Now THIS is more like it! Made this new one in preparation for a show tonight (Saturday). I think it came out pretty well considering I made it Tuesday night and finished by Saturday afternoon. Downtempo Bass Hop. Serum & the Moog Sub37 for the bass stuff, Alchemy for the atmospheric stuff.
New way of doing things now: 1st thing- make the kicks, snares, and hats by layering, fading, and EQing multiple one shots. Then play the pattern on a drum pad, align the midi data and subtract to pocket the groove. Then find the perfect break, usually small bits of more than one break- and cut those breaks down to the best fitting small cuts. Those break cuts get woven into the drum pattern to get things to sound more natural, without changing the pattern originally played in. From there, create a sub which aligns with the kick. Use the midi data from the sub to layer in more bass sounds, and play small atmospheric foley without too much melodic content to keep the focus on bass and drum content.
Formula one!
