God Made Me Funky

A chill hip hop number made this week, ended up being pretty cool. Kind of a slow sluggish beat. The song is named after a drum break I used bits of to construct the beat, a tune called God Made Me Funky by The Headhunters.

Definitely funky.  Nice choice! 

Did you use some kind of compression on the drum sample?  It seems a bit low in the mix, which could be an artifact of under- or over-compression, or just not brought up high enough.  Nice piece, though!

I didn't do any compression on the drum sample at the time- however I did have it turned down a bit in favor of the drums I made myself in using one shot stacks of Kicks & Snares loaded into battery. However, I ended up doing a lot more work on this song this week so I could play it live at a show on Thursday. So the mix is totally different now! That's the case with most of my weekly beats- if I like them enough they become much more polished later on so that I can perform them.

Thanks man! I will take another look at the drum mix now, I may have been ultimately a bit more jazzed on the bass tones at the time I submitted it.
