another LSDJ! this one was particularly rushed today.
I wanted to use almost exclusively a triangle wave on the WAV channel, as a challenge breaking from the last few weeks of heavy WAV chops. With 5 consecutive LSDJ songs done, I also decided to pick at the "overclocked" tempo modes for the first time. That's where the rush came from...
I had to backtrack a few times when I started running into CPU lag at 3x tempo. And I couldn't fall back to 2x (or non-overclocked) because I was using tables to generate some tones, and 3x tempo works out to like F-quarter-sharp, and I had already spent time detuning the rest of the tracks in-progress to match that...
(is there really not a way to detune a P1 instrument matching P2? It looks like all the detune options are meant for PU1 down, PU2 up, symmetrically. So I used a PF4 with a P00 immediately after in the tables of all the instruments. On further thought right now, I guess I could have set a quarter-tone detune in the instrument, and just transposed all of the PU1 phrases a semitone. Also it seems like WAV instrument detune settings can get overridden by table note column stuff? fiddly)
I wish I had more time to build out the middle section. Quite like the melody there, and the wonky additive sort of meter.
[edit] 1-hour-later thoughts:
* the riffs at the 8th bar fills were a shower thought. then filled out at a keyboard. it's nice being back at a keyboard for tooling harmonies; i was away last weekend.
* there are a few "rubato" moments where the tempo noticeably skews. this not intentional it's the DMG CPU choking lmao.
* the only non-triangle WAV channel waveform is a single hand-drawn pulse-ish wave. with a R04/R05 and some pitchbend, it makes a cool hardsync sound in a couple places.
* this is actually one of the least musically dense tunes i've made recently? (a lot of phrase repetition). and it still grooves, that's neat. maybe sometime i'll challenge myself to make something on a 1bar loop (need to nail the groove for that to work)
