Micros

I focused on making something with the micromonsta 2. I have not had it for very long yet and am still exploring it. I made some patches somewhere during the week and just created a simple chord progression and melody to lay the basis for a track. I wasn't particularly impressed by the result (I didn't really feel inspired this week), but decided to stick with it for this week's submission. I made some drums on the m8, mostly using presets that I made with the FM synth before.

Then on the day of the deadline I still had just a few basic ingredients. I spent a few hours making the arrangement and I added one more patch (a simple arp-ish saw). The track did give me some more practice with recording external instruments to the m8. This is easy enough, but I am still finetuning my workflow.

I rendered the result to stems this time, such that I can try to do some mixing in Ableton. I did some very basic stuff so far, but won't have time for a deep dive until later.

BTW, I noticed there is some clipping in the recordings I made here and there.

Very nice! Super punchy on the drums and plucky synths.
The chords/harmony are also really interesting.
They're simple enough, but there's some really cool tension in them.

Lovely!

Good job powering through! I'm sure that week will come for me, and I hope I can do the same. Even if this week isn't your favorite (personally I think it's great!), I'm sure you still learned things, and maintaining that momentum is super helpful.

Congrats on finishing another week! Cool sound design, those swelling chords feel like waves washing by in the later half. And really dig that bass with the just-soft-enough attack. (I've been Micromonsta-curious and this only makes me more so!)

Thank you! Glad you enjoy it. I am bothered a little bit myself by the repetitious nature of some elements, but that's just potentially something for further development.

Thanks! Yes, I guess that maintaining momentum was a key focus for me this week. I think it is helpful to share stuff every now and then that you are still unsure about. That's a barrier I want to break for myself, because I really want this hobby to be first and foremost about the joy of making and sharing music.

Thanks! As mentioned, I am still exploring the micromonsta myself. I have to admit that I still much prefer the sound design workflow of FM synths, but for more analogue-like sounds the micromonsta is a great (portable) companion. I also have the roland S1, which I think is also great for this. The sound design on the S1 feels a bit quicker and more intuitive to me, but the micromonsta has a wider sonic range (I think).

Really fun. The main progression is really reminiscent of something, I was thinking it was Aphex's Heliosphan? It's not the same, but some things about it are similar...
