Peering Eye

By ViridianLoom on December 20, 2020 9:14 pm

When I was working on this earlier this week I was trying to do video game music again or something, but then it took a turn and then I was trying to make a trip hop song. Now it just makes me think of The Birthday Massacre, which is definitely not trip hop, and I wouldn't be surprised if I ripped them off somewhere along the line on the vocal melodies.

Speaking of, I wanted to focus on trying to drive the song more with vocals than anything else. I spent a while writing lyrics this time, which are basically esoteric and vague. I think some of the hooks here are solid but my voice is just really lacking being up to the task for it. I've thought about taking time next year to properly train my voice, maybe going to a teacher or something. Its not just struggling to hit certain notes, it feels like I'm pinching my voice too much or something and sounding strained on notes I should be able to hit comfortably. Anyways, I tried to mask it by doing layered octave vocals to make it sound cooler and edgy. Here be those lyrics.

Faced with time
Drawing lines
In the dark of night
Sigils bind

Breathing dust
Grasping the pen
I write of the thing that hides
Just out of sight
Buried under lime

I can't take this anymore
Strained clouded eye

Don't rescind this invitation
Plagued, I can't resist

The sound echoes down the drain
Another's fate begets the same
All I contend is intent among the sane

We've drawn a sign
Sewn eyes inside our mind obtained
Illuminating change
Maintain a disguise
A lie which I can't sustain

I realize the end of time
Will not affect my reality
Eyes are a sea of memory
And we dwell beneath a shaded tree

Btw, these last 4 months have been hell and I pretty much mentally signed off some participating in this community and I feel bad about it. I appreciate those of you who have continued to check out my music every week and are kind enough to leave me a comment. I'll make it up eventually, I'd like to tune into each of your individual submitted playlists and just listen to everything you did this year and leave comments as I go smile

Really cool to see you playing with vocals among all the other stuff you've been experimenting with. I like them, and I think they're a good fit for the vibe you created. Going to a teacher is always a good idea (it's been on my list for a while), but also sometimes it's just a matter of putting the time in and really honing a sound that works for you and feels comfortable.

I like the unsettling vibe of this track and I could definitely see it in some kind of gta style game where you have shady missions in urban alleyways and a rough street environment. Well done!

Good song! You sing with strong feeling on your words, it's nice to listen.

It's okay, take your time. You've made yourself a fine song here, too.

This is a real raw diamond of a song. I like your vocals and the guitars playing with that beat. It is a good combination and fits into the late 80ies or maybe 90ies. Keep on doing, what you are doing.

The synth line in the background gives this track a  mysterious atmosphere. Tasty guitar licks! Great job on the vocals, the voice has just the right tone for this.

Really nice vocals dude!! Awesome work on the arrangement too.
