Nostrum

I was tinkering around with building drum sounds from scratch this week and, eh, it fell short. The drums sounded good for the softer part but then totally lifeless during the heavier sections, so I ended up changing course in these last couple of hours and just loading a preset. That presented some of its own problems because now I was remixing the whole song and my ears are fatigued. At the moment it sounds pretty dull, like the high end is heavily compressed or something which isn't what I was aiming for. Not really a song that I'm all that into anyways so I guess it's not a huge loss.

Anyways, we'll see how things go these next two weeks but I have time off and I'm going to buckle down and finish one of my albums. I just need to work on fixing some errors in the recordings and then try mixing it down. I've been wanting to get it off my plate for a while, I feel like it's been interfering with my desire to be creative because I don't want to work on anything else until it's done.

Also, in the health department, I'm down from 182lb to 174lb, which is the top range of my BMI which is nice. My stretch goal is 160lb. And then I just got to maintain a healthy life style of exercise and balanced diet. Playing a lot of Ring Fit Adventure, which is an AWESOME exercise game for the Nintendo Switch that I highly recommend people check out who want to get a good work out at home while having fun. It's wayyyy too hot outside right now and I don't have a gym membership so it's helped so much with me getting cardio each week.

Congratulations for the weight loss and the health improvements! I hope it also makes you feel better mentally, this is important.

I like a lot of sections in this track - the relaxed pacing, the beautiful sounds of the clean sounds and the soaring guitar lines. That break of arpeggios around 3:45 is a nice change and then it builds back up. Nice track!

Good luck completing the album!

clean break is awesome. solid overall.

Great progress on the health front, proud of you!

" I feel like it's been interfering with my desire to be creative because I don't want to work on anything else until it's done."  I can 100% relate to this... I'm an "End Credits" person, and I blame it on playing adventure games as a kid... like I can't play a little of Elden Ring, and a little Mario Wonder, and hit up and old Pokemon game... or whatever... When I start a game I need to finish it before I move to another game... and if I have one where, I'm like about to go into the "final level" or whatever... there is nothing else until I beat it.  That has bled into every other aspect of my life it seems, and music is no exception.  I really greatly envy artists who can be working on like 5 projects all at the same time, and do a little for this, and add an instrument to that... and come back to those things... I have two speeds HIGH and STOP... if I'm working on it, then that's what I'm working on, if I'm not then it doesn't exist.  That's actually been the most challenging part of WB thus far... all the projects I got to like 85% only to realize I just wouldn't have time to finish them before the deadline... because as soon as I moved on, my brain is like, "well, shame that's never gonna be finished... because now it's dead to me!"

Gratz on the weight loss... lifestyle changes are tough... and it takes soooo long before you're body will accept that it's not going back to the way it was before, but very worth it once it gives up on trying to get the weight back.

I'm interested if you figure out what was bothering you in the drums... my best guess is it's the reverb on the snares is masking out some of the other high mids in the more high energy sections and you're losing some "punch" in the wash... but that's like a shot in the dark... you might try sidechaining the snare reverb to the snare itself, to duck the reverb out of the way on the leading transients, and reclaim some punch... but I'm no expert, so if you crack the case on it, I'd be interested to know what you find.

DAMN! Good job on the weight loss, I'd have to lose a 15-20 (maybe even 25 but this would be a stretch) pounds myself but couldn't find the discipline yet to really go for it.

I really like the track, especially the lightest parts. I feel you could maybe dial down the delays-reverbs on the more distorted parts? (It is an aesthetic choice as well I know, but I feel it is quite dense)

Very nice!

Take care, you rock man!

Congrats on the weight loss and health goals!  The guitar sounds so triumphant and anthemic in this.  The lines at around the 2:30 mark are extra appreciated.  The rhythm of the line and how the melody sort of bounces around was really pleasing. Oooh the change around 3:42 sounds good right before the drums kick back in.  Love that melodical line at the end and excellent shredding \m/

Awesome news, and awesome track to boot! I'll have to try out Ring Fit Adventure sometime. This tune'll make for a wonderful cooldown afterward! big_smile
