Land of Ruin

By ViridianLoom on May 10, 2020 9:03 pm

Ran out of time early since its Mother's day. I had a bunch of disjointed ideas on this track that I wanted to Frankenstein together so I pretty much spent all morning just trying to bridge the ideas together. Some of the transitions are a cop out, just a moment of silence before the next section bursts in. It is what it is. I also wanted to experiment more with including synths in metal songs so that's showcased here too. Also a bit of apocalyptic doom metal.

Mix itself is meh. Drums were a struggle, so many different riffs and I wanted to keep them varied with new beats and I was running out of ideas haha. Not my finest work, especially compared to the other metal songs I did this year so far (I felt I nailed "Wax Wings" and "Quarantine"). But I'd say the accomplishment here is writing 8:30 minutes of material

Hey, at least you put some sort of thought into transitions. Maybe a nice drum flourish would've bridged them better, kinda like Metallica, but at least they're there.

I'm hoping to bring this one to my bandmates after everything blows over and see if they can work their magic on helping the sections flow into each other better.

the first riff was very good !!

It's like a bunch of tracks in one! Sweet journey.

It reminds me a little of Paradise Lost (the band). Nice guitar work and I love the tone of the melodic line at the beginning. You did that in a week? Pretty intricate stuff. Did you program the drums?

Thanks! Yeah, wrote it in a week which is why some of these ideas contrast pretty hard against each other. it's a mixed bag in the drum programming. There are some areas completely done from scratch and others where I dragged and dropped midi patterns out of kontakt studio drummer, or a combination of the two. Sometimes I just take hihat patterns and then do the kick and snare manually to follow the rhythm I'm trying to emphasize.

Epic!

totally epic! impressive riffage there! Great title.

I've been playing a lot of FF6 lately but I didn't want to call it World of Ruin since that song vibe is very different tongue haha
