Discomfort in Waiting

An anxious tune inspired by the likes of Cruelty Squad.

I'm not particularly well versed in music theory but the main two "motifs" are that one pattern ascends in minor 3rds and the other pattern ascends in 2nds, which makes it sound unstable.

A couple of weeks ago I got a biometrics test (regular check up) and my liver enzymes were through the roof (240, healthy range is below 50ml) and I had to get an ultrasound and wait on results. I thankfully just got confirmation that I don't have liver cancer or liver scarring so that's a weight off my mind, but I had been incredibly anxious and "shut down" (a coping mechanism) these last couple of weeks because of it. Silver lining is that the experience scared me into eating healthier and exercising every day so I'm going to maintain that and lose like 15 pounds.

I like the way the notes ascend in the beginning without resolving immediately! The title is very appropriate. I like how you create some momentary relief by bringing the drums in but then continue to build tension all the way towards the middle of the track. The guitar and synths playing around each other at the end is really nice. I like interesting rhythms at the end with the bells a lot.

its like a soundtrack for shitty plastic chairs and dirty office carpet. fits the title perfectly.

Wow I am glad that your results were negative. These type of results are VERY scary, hopefully it's just something temporary and everything goes back to normal. It's good to see that you were able to find a positive thing out of it.

This track had a private eye/film noir feel to it. A mystery is unfolding in the night!

Way to hone in on a beautifully enigmatic pattern with the power of music theory! wink

I’m sorry to hear what you’ve been going through. Glad to hear it didn’t turn out to be the worst-case scenario, but I hope you get a reprieve from the stress it caused. heart

Appreciate it, Ked! Definitely scary, but I also made it worse for myself by doing way too much research on what high liver enzymes are an indicator of, haha. But it did arm me with some more knowledge on watching what I include in my diet. I should be good if I'm mindful of stuff I eat and exercise more. Turning over a new leaf. Whenever I'm in a better headspace I aim to start getting caught up on your tunes from the last few weeks. Appreciate your support always heart

Thanks, Capy! Definitely doing better mentally, just adjusting to some lifestyle changes (Low carb, no added sugars, low sodium, doing push ups and running every day, eating lots of fruits/veggies, black coffee, it all sucks honestly lol). And I appreciate you showing up each week to check out my tunes. Promise I'll catch up on yours soon enough. Most weeks lately I'm just trying to muster up the energy to write something by Sunday morning.

I enjoy the strange quality, where there is the occasional dissonance and then the tunes find each other again. A movement between airyness and doom..

Glad to hear you are doing better.  I've had to make some changes myself this year so hope everything goes smooth the rest of the year for you.  Love the tension and mystery in this.  The ending actually reminded me a bit of Plaid's progressions.  Guitars sounded excellent as always and really enjoyed those drawn out synth pads.

Health stuff sucks but I'm glad you are doing ok man. I want to maybe try and go for a hike this weekend. Let me know if you wanna join?! It will probably have to be at the butt crack of dawn so the mountain is shading us.

Cool tune, pretty unsettling at some moments but really loving the drums!
