Gimme a Fiver (for a Pizza)

By Tweaklab on January 26, 2020 11:59 pm

90s Punk Rock. Riot drums. Dirty kit. Dirty guitar. Slappy bass. Distorted vocals.

I made this tune after buying "Riot Drums" by Ugritone (it was on sale for $5, that must have influenced the title and lyrics now I think about it!)

I wanted to capture that 90s Punk Rock vibe of Pennywise, Offspring etc and I think I did OK, we even have some overdriven vocals with delay for a change! You can tell a few ideas were thrown around, I think the first "verse" had some rhythm guitar for the 2nd half which was lost in the rushed Weekly Beat edit as well. Definitely a genre I want to tackle again with more time and thought though! This is more a tech demo. Writing this I was reminded of the skate/surf/blade videos my big brother and I would watch in the 90s.

Lyrics:

Give me a fiver!
A fiver for a pizza!
Give me a fiver!
Not getting any richer!

Fuck yeah. I'll do at least one of those this year. How did you do the drums? It works very good to me.

Thanks! The drums are a plug-in called "Riot Drums" by Ugritone, it was on sale for $5 instead of $45 so I jumped on it. They made the drum library with the 90s in mind, punk/metal, that real raw sound. Made writing punk beats so seamless!

5/5, not enough screaming.

punk as fuck, nailed the sound, I love it

I like the clean bass sound at the beginning and then the transition into the dirtier punk feel is awesome.

Nailed it, but where do you live you can get a pizza for $5???????????

Thank you so much, and I agree. I'm working on a more "serious" punk song that will definitely have screaming and bro choirs.
