BEAD (Unorthodox Return)

By TurtwigX on June 14, 2026 9:46 pm

I decided to return to my BEAD idea from before! This is an experiment in what I like to call "tonal serialism." Every element in this music comes from the note sequence BEAD.

For the bass it was simple. The lines had to hit B-E-A-D either forwards, backwards, inverted, with some transposition so things didn't get too boring.

For the chords I took the shape of BEAD and used its inversions to make chord shapes to sit on top of that bass. It being all 4ths it was mostly really odd harmony so that's why it sounds so alien.

For the rhythm I had to turn BEAD into numbers. In set theory that makes 11-4-9-2. Altogether that's 26, so I wrote some hot jams in 13/8.

Then last, the melody. I used a system I got from this YouTube video to give me variations on an input melody. And once I did all 4 of those things, it was off to the races!

Tonal serialism will return in like I dunno maybe another 11 weeks or so
