80s as fuck!

Lovely!

I'd like to add some words.
The mix isn't perfect of course. Actually the hihats (especially this "open hat"-hit) are much to harsh and loud for this style of music. Also the singer doesn't get every note right, make sure she's hearing her voice loud enough on the phones next time.

BUT this has such a nice "minimal wave"-feel and it's one of very few songs i downloaded yesterday.

Thanks for your comments Lee! I am the singer and composer on this smile Yes the drums are a mess, I'm still a real novice at drum program mixing, so thats useful advice. I'm not fussy about studio pitch-perfect singing, but with this tight timeframe its hard to get the best take smile

Love the vibe, re: drums, try EQing the highs down a bit, not drastically, but some... and mix the hats much lower than the other sounds, just loud enough to hear them clearly when soloing the drum track.

Ya its a little bit difficult to make out your lyrics, the vocal needs some compression and EQ / bringing down the lows around 100-300 htz, and boosting the mids around 1.5Khtz. I love a great lyric though, its a huge part of songwriting.

Useful comments. It's a nicely structured song, good stuff for inside a week!

Useful comments indeed. I will caveat that Im in no way trying to sound like some American Idol singer - my style is closer to MBV/Cocteaus, so you arent going to get clarity from my vocals or lyrics - but the tips on the drums I'm taking on board. Thanks all.

I'm glad I heard this before the new week's worth of pieces are uploaded. Nice effort! Structurally was sound and you certainly nail the vibe you're going for. From the description I was hoping for a bit more shoegaze (maybe a la I break horses). I do agree with the above comments about eq and compression. If you can, try to listen to your mix on as many mediums as you can, ie crappy phone speakers as well as yiur computer, etc. it sometimes helps identify troublesome areas of mixes. Really looking forward to your next one!

Thanks HT! Yep - I think one problem is that I use a pair of way-too-good AudioTechnica phones for my mixing, and add to that being a bit deaf in one ear and I'm not as on-point as Id like to be. I'll keep the shoegaze in mind for next week wink I'm afraid this week's effort is hella minimal in comparison to this.

great vibe, keep up the good work! i look forward to following your progression this year, your sound is one i really enjoy smile
