Slow Mocean

By Tone Matrix on June 12, 2022 3:25 pm

I've been listening to a ton of lofi stuff lately.  Most of the time it's on in the background and I'm not really 100% concentrating on it.  Ya know the short mellow piano stuff with laid back hip hop beats?  I don't really have the jazz knowledge or sample prowess to go that route but I def like the mellow piano with a filtered beat.  So I dunno maybe it's Lofi Ambient if such a thing exists.  Genre naming doesn't really matter *shrug*  but I figure this is a bit more comfortable for me to make rather than each week trying to tell myself I'm going to make some giant bombastic beat filled epic track.  If it comes out as epic/energetic cool.  If it turns out mellow and laid back cool too!  Slow n steady weens dee race! tongue

Oh and I almost forgot... The inspiration/motivation/whatevayawannacallit for this week came from Valhalla. No not the Norse but the audio plugin company.  I read they had recently updated their free reverb/delay plugin 'Supermassive' with two new modes.  I threw it on a send and bam I was in loop bliss with the echoes and whatnot smile  I definitely recommend checking it out.  It tricked me into having fun for a change and just zoning out with the different textures it can create.  H'ok coffee mug empty, ramble over, thanks for listenin smile

Digging the chill vibe of this one.  I think the beat and piano are a really cool combination.  I've played around a little bit with Supermassive, but wasn't aware they had updated it.  I'll have to check it out.

Beautiful work.

The piano lines at the intro sound like two very close hits, making me wonder if it's a delay or a chorus. It results in an interesting effect. I love the distant beat with a lot of EQ in the background, transforming the atmosphere of the track. I enjoyed this one.

I always adore your skills on the piano. the little dissonance in the pianoline are vitalizing and calming at the same time. the beat is gentle and shy in the background. I call it goodfi.

Really nice chill piano track ^_^, certainly feels like an mood-driven interlude track (or something that would bridge from the end of one track into another) for a trip-hop album.

Also it took me a second to pickup on the cleverness of that title, haha.

Wonderful performance and sound; your ideas really add some thoughtfulness and gravitas to the lo-fi sound.   If I'd found this on iTunes in the mid 2000s, I'd have bought it on the spot and listened to it constantly on my iPod.  Nothing's stopping me from listening to it without an iPod though, so: +fav/dl

Love this style, great execution, the initial piano line does a great job of carrying things along, will have to check out the plugin

Love the approach of whatever comes out comes out, it's all ok! This is super more than ok. Like the understated filtered drums and great piano and chords as usual.
I would love to use some of your piano, sample, and try and make a lofi beat to chill to type track.
I like the title of this.

Elegant, graceful, very enjoyable

could still totally work for the soundtrack to a viking burial even if you were just talking about the plug in - gorgeous as per usual...

josh liked 'supermassive' so much he paid for 'room' - says it is super versatile and easy to use

Thanks so much.  I've always kind of shred away from releasing my music on those platforms only cuz I've felt like my mixes and volume levels etc were never up to par with all those pros on there.  But this is very encouraging thank you.  Also yes I miss my old school iPod brick..  That cool metal feeling on your hands as you click thru the tracks.  Damn those were good concentrated listens.  Hell it makes me want to rip my otter box case off my iPhone to feel the coolness of the phone as a tiny substitute.  But my lack of fingernails and a screwdriver tells me no. tongue

Awesome!  Yea they have some inspiring plugins.  Their VintageVerb one is prob my fav that I use a lot too.  That has some far out ones as well.  It's like Supermassive's big brother.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and listening I really appreciate all your feedback smile

Oops forgot...
Feel free to sample anytime, I'd love to hear whatever ya come up with smile

Yessss, love this.  Yeah, this definitely can pass for lo-fi.  Its totally a unique take on it though without the constant drums, which is really cool.  Love the Valhalla plugins too!  Such solid, easy to use, reliable effects.  Super Massive is one of my favs too! Cool to see what you did with it.
