Evolute (Reborn)

"quick" story time.
Back in 2014 when I started my first WB adventure it was a huge challenge to me wondering if I could somehow make 52 tracks in 52 weeks.
Back then I wasn't exactly blessed with the amount of software/hardware music gear as I am now.  Let's just say I was a bad boy with some programs that I "tried" out..

So a few years later my conscience got the best of me and I finally decided to stop dabbling in the dark art of warez.  I never made any money off those tracks (not that I make money lol) that used that software but it def didn't feel right when I kept watching videos on YT and just felt icky about it.
Which meant after the big software purge that I ripped off like a bandaid, I didn't exactly think through how it was going to affect all of my old projects.  Of course it affected all of those tracks and meant if I ever decided to remaster or remix it was going to be either impossible or sound different.
Long story sorta shorter, my fav most proud track that I've accidentally made was week 24 of 2014, "Evolute".  It was a combo of Ableton factory instruments, Kontakt instruments and Massive doing some of the synth pad stuff.  So even tho my copy of Ableton and all of my other software is legitimatized I never did buy Massive again.  For one it was a bit too dubsteppy for me at times or just not for the genre of music i was looking to create in.  Also it was a bit expensive at the time.
Cut to 8 years later and somehow Focusrite the company I purchased my affordable 2i2 audio interface from still gives away free software every other month or so.  Sometimes it is some dumbed down express version of software meant to get you to buy the full version.  And other times it's actually a full fledged program like Izotope Ozone Elements orrrrrrr Native Instruments Massive!
WOAH!
That is what I said Keanu style when I saw that Focusrite was giving me Massive for free!
Exceedingly long story not short at all, I thankfully recovered the patches from most (not all) of the old projects that had Massive patches.  Yayyyyy *muppet clap*

So this is my happy sorta remake version of Evolute from 2014.  It's pretty exact to the original except for those Kontakt instruments having to be replaced with others and it includes a new Piano noodle in the middle and end.  So hopefully this isn't frowned upon but this was a fun sorta childlike adventure for me opening up new presents on Christmas.
The sample is from a show but hopefully hidden enough.. If that is frowned upon I can reverse the sample I just really wanted those words being said (heard) in the track.
“You’re looking at it wrong, the sky thing.
-How is that?
"Once there was only dark.  If you ask me, the light’s winning.”

I know I should probably just be proud of most things I do but between the collabs this year and this track this is def something that I look back on fondly and go "damn why can't i make another like that!? but yay!" smile

Thank you for listening and reading my story.  heart

Interesting back story.  It's almost as if the universe wanted you to be able to recreate this track.  I can see why you like it.  It has a joyous and epic feel to it.  The spoken word part adds a nice touch as well.

Haha the story of having "experimented" with software back in the days before going back to the full legit side resonates a lot with me. smile Congratulations on getting Massive back (Massive is awesome right!) and being able to salvage these old tracks, and converting them back to the light side. This track was the chosen one!

It builds progressively and getting more and more epic past the 2:00 mark. It becomes especially goosebumps inducing from 2:30 onwards. The voice samples around 3:25 are interesting, they feel like messages from a different dimensions, or radio transmission from a distant past. The way the track resolves to a minimalistic piano is really nice, taking us back to the shore. Beautiful track!

Successful rebirth of your epic piece from 2014. I went back to have a listen and find it hard to tell you which one I like more, but I hear you mixed some additional ingredient in the 2022 version. beautiful and timeless music it will be forever.

Went back to give the original a listen, cool you could revisit/recreate this and nice touch with the additional piano, I did find that this new version had a more balanced mix, forget sometimes that all these old weeklybeats tunes are still on here.

So basically, you didn't make this song this week
I thought it sounded vaguely familiar
I listened to the old one, still slightly different, slightly better, but it must be wild going back to this after so many years, memories and emotions coming back

Stunning Beauty! (Congrats on recovering some old tools for free, too… i can imagine that felt good: i used to use Massive but also had that same ‘too-dubsteppy’ feel for it as you had, wouldn’t mind trying it in a new/different context, tho) …this track goes full-circle through a journey of rebirth in and of itself. Cool twist. Masterful pace and progression. Graceful execution overall heart

Well the majority of the song no I did not.. but the piano in this is all added especially the solo outro.

Many many years ago I was full warez mad.  I find it quite liberating not using pirate copies now as your decisions on what you choose to use are more focused and meaningful.  Not to mention having much less crap to install when you have to reformat or set up a new machine.  Haha.  And how good is the software now.  Amazing!  Of course I choose to go hardware later and use Ableton as a gloried tape machine for my modular.  Hah.  Definitely use all my software for the film work though!

Glad you were able to revisit it!

great track great story!  i want massive for free!  but i know i will have no idea how to use it.

Very cool how this track kind of got "unlocked" for you smile

I have no comments on warez but I just want to shout out Peter Quistgard for no real reason.

Haha excellent..... I forgot about that name.  I definitely did use CoolEdit Pro!  I did a crazy sound design piece using only CEP which made it onto an album many years ago.  Blew my mind when I stumbled into that scene.
