First off, it's great to be back with all of you WBers!  I had planned on trying to finish this one early in the week but of course as usual nothing really came to me until the last day.  I'm still in pre-season form tongue  I added a Novation Bass Station 2 to my setup a few weeks ago.  I'm still learning the ins & outs of it but it's definitely got an awesome analog punch in da face sound!  Anyone else using Ableton 10 beta (or BS2)?  I'm currently on it, but wonder if I should go back to 9 since it might affect reopening future projects this year.  It does have some cool new features (echo, pedal fx etc) but  I don't plan on purchasing it right away since the BS2 is the new toy smile  Thanks for reading my long-winded intro for week 1, here's to 51 more (hopefully much better!).  Looking forward to hearing your tunes as well!

this almost sounds Halo-y? takes me back to listening to those soundtrack cds. nice expansive, driving sound.

Man, I'd be really pissed if you wouldn't show this year (I think I messed my english grammar here)... It's great to have you back!!!!

So now you're obtaining those wonder ambiences from one monosynth? Then I'm definetely doing something wrong because that sounds cinematic and big as usual.

Tomorrow I'll be driving for some 5 hours and this one will be driving along with me, definetely smile

Again, I'm happy you're here for another year smile Peace from Madrid!

Totally gives an impression of outer space and looking up. Chill but also driven with a sense of purpose. Now that's a great track

Great drums!  Great downtempo chill vibes.

Oh man, I think I know the exact level that you are talking about.  It's that distorted flute sound!  :-)

Super chill. I dig it

Hey, thanks for the track and intro. Context is always useful!
I like how the track fits into my work playlist.

woahh i love the synths & the feel, so good :~~

Oh hot damn, dude, the chord progression is _goooood_. What are you doing for drums? They sound killer.

Also, the square arp halfway through is *chef's kiss*

Excellent, still got the sweet sound, this is so pleasant to listen to

Very nice groove to it and I like the tones.  I've got an old Bass Station keyboard which I haven't used for years actually!  Might have to dig it up.  Had some great tones.  I'm a fan of analog  smile

Great feeling to this. It opens the year perfectly, with great things to come on the horizon!

v nice, simple and well-executed. only thing that bothered me slightly was the panning on the filtered snare, but probably only because i'm wearing headphones.

Good to see you back!  The sort of "main theme" of this is truly epic.  Nice start to the year for sure!

What a smashing piece. Just lovely to listen to, well done.

Walm and Sweet, also cool. Awesome.

Great drums, great feelin... Should be perfect for a contemporary dance act...

Big, epic sound but also somehow cozy and warm. Well done!

warm and positive energy coming from you. Thank you.

Oh true, I haven't played Halo since like Halo 2?  I did enjoy the soundtrack to those games though, especially that opening screen.

Haha no no, not everything was from the BS2.  The bassy and leads were but that main pad sound and the tinkly melody synth were from Ableton with some of that new echo device used.  Glad to be back and glad to see you're back as well!  smile

Thanks! The drums were a combo of a filtered loop, 707kit and Ironman Kit from ableton and a few hi-hat sounds I imported from Elastic Drums.  The arp was a last ditch effort because I was trying to do a solo on the bass station and my fingers were not cooperating so I turned it into an arp on ableton smile

Thanks, yeah I probably should get in the habit of giving it a headphone listen too and dialed down the lfo that was throwing the snare around. smile

Beautiful sounds, nice job. I'm using Ableton 10 beta. Haven't opened any of the 10 projects back in 9 yet, guessing that will be problem, but I love 10!

beautiful track. love how it really opens up (like a flower i'd say!) towards the second half.
Drums sound really great too.

btw: I am looking for a nice synth, smth that sounds organic but isn't too expensive ...
Someone suggested the roland aira system one, but i get mixed reviews on that one.
if you have an idea ... smile

Great "Laid back Bakerman" Style reissue.

Oh wow, so chill! Great sounds yikes Enjoying it a lot!

Thanks!  Yep I tried it myself and it definitely won't open, so saving a 9 copy might be recommended just in case (I think).

Thanks!  I personally don't know much about the Aira system.  At a glance it's always struck me as a house/techno sort of box, but again that's just my dumb assumption at the moment.  As far as organic, I can say the Bass Station 2 for the money can really make some far out patches if you explore it (which I'm still learning).  But when you add some decent reverb or FX from your fav DAW or box, it sounds even better.  I might be a bit biased at the moment, but for the price it's great.  There are some ambient tracks on youtube featuring a Bass Station 2 that sold me on using it for more than basslines/leads.  Hope this helped smile

Awesome!  Listened to this one twice.  I like how the bass almost sounds like it's born out of the kick.  Chord seq reminds me slightly of Groove Armada - My Friend (I think because it's the same key maybe?... which in turn was inspired by The Fatback Band - Learn How To Dance!!)
   Really lovely tune.

really pretty!

Thanks! It's possible it was stuck in my head smile  I loved their 'At the River' track too
