Ask If You Can Bring A Friend

By Tone Matrix on January 14, 2018 9:05 pm

I took a bit of a darker turn this week since I was under the weather and slurping on NyQuil.  Which meant, also introducing myself to the show, "Black Mirror".  Other than the interesting stories (specifically Fifteen Million Merits & Be Right Back) they have pretty ominous scores behind them.  I was intrigued by how they started out happy and then quickly took a dark turn (usually due to bad weather or staring at their phones).  So I had a little fun and pretended to score my own imaginary scene.  A scene that involves death, afterlife and a possible reunion.  Amazing what NyQuil and some darkness can inspire! tongue  Anyway, I used a ragtime piano from my Roland RD-700GX as the main instrument and added in two Bass Station tracks towards the end to try and signify the digital/supernatural presence.  The EPiano towards the end is from the Roland as well.  Oh and some NYC subway muttering from freetousesounds.com.   Seeing as I have two seasons of Black Mirror left to watch, next week might be similar smile  Thanks for reading & listening!

Really loving the chord progression here. Beautiful stuff!

I think it would fit perfectly into the show. Really beautiful melodies here, and a perfect "fake old" piano sound. I also loved the darker end of the piece.

Your music is always very evocative and neaver fails to impress

Get well soon, mate!

This is just beatyfull. Quite a song for some daydreaming....

Really digging this.

Very plaintive and pretty and then really does take a turn towards the ominous at the end.

really beautiful tones & sounds - get well soon!

Black Mirror rules.

I like how the piano sounds a bit out of tune?  Must just have some clashing harmonics if it's virtual.  I like that though!  Makes it more real.
More of this please. smile

That piano tone is gorgeous. The pillowy attack of the strings is sublime.

Are you a piano player by trade? That chord progression is so thoughtful. Great work.

Can I bring a friend?

It sure is a pretty song.

Touching soulful music. That is what I like. Thank you.

Great show, I can see how it inspired this one, I hope you do some more like this, emotional and engaging

Very evocative! The occasional touch of pentatonics works great

Wunderbar,lovely Atmos!

Thanks! Not the greatest piano player and I stink at reading music but a few years of music theory classes sort of helped with my general understanding of chords smile  I do have a habit of unintentionally recycling my fav chords.  Damn you d minor! smile  Thanks again for listening!
