Vox Prima (ft. Erika Gersten)

I've been meaning to use Weekly Beats as an excuse to do more voice practice and recording. This is the first iteration, having recorded some choir-like vocal lines with my voice teacher Erika Gersten. Basically it's a bunch of vocal layers and harmonies, then added some synth arp and grimy synth bass on top. The synth bass actually has a vocal sample in it for extra crunch. The beat is basically a manipulated and layered beat from Splice, layered with another kit using drum samples from The Midnight sample pack. Tons of automation throughout, from synth filters and wavetable types to master bus FX. Kinda wish I had more time, I don't love the drums, and maybe I should have made something a bit housier or EDM-y. Anyway, more VOX weekly beats coming up!

* Voices recorded via Shure SM-58 through Focusrite 4i4
* Synth with Ableton Wavetable and Bass instruments
* Drum and percussion samples from Splice

Total Time: 5 hours

This is super cool!

I love all the layered up voices with the arp.

Dropping the beat gives it a great changeup.

This builds so well and the vocal layers/harmonies give me chills. Great arps. The drums are nice and crunchy and give some weight under the pad-like vocals. Brilliant work.

Woah, thanks, I really appreciate that!

Wow, thank you. This is one of the best compliments I've ever received for a track. Seriously, thank you! I have a vague idea to make more of these 'Vox' projects, using voice and vocal performance (as opposed to vocal chop samples) as a primary instrument in some EDM/IDM-like tracks.

I'm excited to hear what you come up with!

Nice voices you have smile Sounds great, also composition wise.
