The Impulse - What Is Hope?

By Tomatron.Jones on October 20, 2024 11:42 pm

Another stream-of-consciousness sound collage track. I started this one after listening to a few Oneohtrix Point Never tracks. This one started as heavy sound textures that broke into a subtle guitar sample, which is where this one stars. Tons of sample chopping, pitch-shifting, manipulating, and tweaking. I also treated this as a test-bed for the new Transit 2 plugin, but it was giving me some issues so I kinda kept it kinda simple as far as layering and automation goes. This is a small snippet from a larger composition. It's kinda neat but I feel like I need to start break some old production habits and try some new things.

* Ableton bass synths and Wavetable for more synths and bass
* Drum, percussion, pads, sax, trumpet, vocal, texture, etc. samples from Splice
* Ableton Simpler for drum sample chopping
* Valhalla, Transit, Transit 2 plugins (and more)
* Gullfoss and Ozone for mastering

Total Time: ~6 hours

I really dig this track.  Super hypnotic.  Great groove to the drums, that grounds all the movement... really great job on the sample chops and effects.  Phenomenal use of Transit.

Super cool and cinematic.

Thank you! Transit has been super fun, I'm trying to find the tasteful balance with it because it is easy to overdo it.
