Run Song #1

By Tomatron.Jones on January 28, 2024 11:51 pm

I wanted to make something a bit more up-beat, something to run to. I sequenced several MIDI layers, piped it into the Moog Sub-Phatty and recorded it while I fiddle some knobs. I did that with the bass, some 'pads', and the lead / arps. Then through on some drums and layered a ton of my voice. I still struggle with vocal mixing and probably went overboard with layers and plugins. Also struggled a bit with the mix keeping the layers separate. I spent more time on this than I should half, it got a bit more complicated than it needed to be. Oh well, you live and you learn!

* Moog Sub-Phatty - bass, chords / pads, and arp / leads
* Splice samples for drums, riser
* My own voice over many layers
* Ample use of Transit Plug-in for automation
* Ample use of Trackspacer and sidechaining between various layers

Total Time : 5 hours, 45 minutes

Not overboard at all. Sounds great. Love the layers and your own vocals incorporated

Thanks! Definitely a bit of Outrun / Synthwave inspiration in this one!

Dude - this song is so amazing! what needs help is the drum mix, particullarly the hats and snares. your vocals, melodies, and harmonic elements are all fantastic!

I hate running but I'm ready to strap on my shoes and go right now. Really dig this one! Sub phatty and the vocals *chefs kiss*

Hey, thanks for the listen and feedback! What would you recommend on how to fix the drum mix? I can imagine I can turn the snare down and make the snare and hats a bit less dry?

Hey this is all my opinion, hahaah -

the highhats (both of them) are too loud/sharp and contrasting too sharply from the rich/organic vocals. I think something more 'acoustic'/softer would be better. The snare could maybe go down, but it liked it more on the 2nd listen and think it will be better if the hats are tamed. The toms sound pretty cool - make them louder for the fills?!?!?!?!

Beautiful voices
