Bass and Synth Thing #2

By Tomatron.Jones on February 15, 2026 11:45 pm

Yet more practice on the bass and synth to simple drum kick patterns. Here I'm using a Moog Subphatty for both synth bass and lead, playing the p-bass to the kick from a few Splice drum samples, and also adding arps and chords from the Korg Minilogue. I did't have much time but was able spend some time editing the rough scratch bass recording to lock in a bit better with the kick. And I've been experimenting with layered drums, so mixing a 'live' drum sample (from Splice) with kick and snare hits for a bit more impact.

* Drum samples from Splice (loops and snare / kicks from The Midnight sample pack)
* Moog Subphatty for synth bass and lead
* Korg Minilogue for chords and arp
* Generic P-Bass recorded through Focusrite Scarlett 4i4
* Transit, Valhalla plugins
* Gullfoss and Ozone Elements 10 for mastering

Sounds really really great! The mixing and mastering are also very well done imo. Awesome job!

Cool, spooky synthwave vibe, the live bass really adds something.

One minor comment is that at times the panning seems to be quite heavy in a way that can be distracting.

Ah yes, I kinda overdue some of the panning and filter automation, mostly on the drums and synths / arps. I need to work on toning some of that down. I appreciate that!

Powerful sound!
