Donaghy's Hill

By Tom Foolery on January 4, 2020 11:55 pm

This track was recorded in the Franklin River National Park in Tasmania. I accidentally forgot to take my Gameboy with nanoloop mono out of my backpack so it came along for the ride as well.

At a small walk, called Donaghy's Hill, I was inspired by the bird calls and captured a low quality field recording from my mobile phone.

A simple loop from nanoloop mono was recorded via the Gameboy speaker into the phone microphone.

Whilst I have been holidaying, Australia has been burning. As a result of the Government's inaction on climate change, and desire to cut costs wherever possible, communities are being destroyed, countless living organisms are being killed, and the government is relying upon volunteer efforts to help keep the fires under control. Spending time in the beautiful untouched wilderness of the national parks in Tasmania, some of which were nearly flooded to make dams, reminded me of what has been fought for to keep, and how we must continue that fight to preserve the world going forth.

wooooooooozzzzzz

Wow, such a simple but clever idea to just record a NL track with birds singing in the background.

Stay safe Aussies

Glad to see you hear

Very atmospheric!  Glad you're here, and best wishes!

Wow, living in Tasmania I was both surprised and... grateful? for lack of a better word, to see the description for this track. Australia is literally on fire right now, I know I've only seen crumbs from the surface in the media but my heart and empathy goes out to every living thing affected by this chaos.

Really nice piece, by the way smile

My heart breaks for you guys - beautiful piece and tribute.  Sad to hear the animals, whose lives are in danger.

whatt?? this is a live track? this is insanely good and i dont know why, well done.

Thank you all for the kind words. Please don't forget to do what you can for the world we live in. Every action counts.
