Another busy week. Lots of nice catch-ups with friends! Went swimming twice, which I hadn't done in over a month, so that was good as well! I also importantly managed to prioritise a whole evening for staying home and messing with music gear, which I had really been craving. It was lots of fun! Ironically though, nothing from that was weeklybeats worthy haha.

For your enjoyment this piece is a multitracked technics wsa 1 recording that was then processed in the octatrack, crafted late on a Sunday evening.

Hope you enjoy!

i love swimming!

awesome piece, what did the octatrack do to it?

Thank you! The octatrack in this case has been used to pitch down the recording, and then apply compression, EQ, some reverb, and then some more compression! Also trimming the recording and adding fadeouts was done in the octatrack sample editor.

rad!  I'm thinking I'm going to get one (octa) in the next year.

I cannot recommend one enough. It took me a few years of trying to use it as a regular sampler before it finally clicked that it can do anything. I've used it as a DJ decks for DJ sets (both with and without a mixer), a granular synthesiser, a semi-generative sequencer, a looper, a 4 track recorder, a resampling sample editing mangler, and as for this track a mastering box. It can do so much. My tip would be to make project templates, it really made a big difference about a year ago as to how I approach the octa.

my wallet: don't listen to his LIES!!

I'm literally looking up YouTube tutorials and browsing the elektronauts forum in another tab wink

after I get one, can I pester you with questions maybe?

Ahaha the wallet is often the hardest to convince!
There are lots of great tutorials out there, and so many different ways to use it. Seeing how other people use theirs makes me re-inspired every time. Feel free to ask any questions if/when you do get one!
Also as a forewarning, a lot of people complain about the steep learning curve and get put off them very quickly. It is unique and has quirks but definitely a piece of gear that rewards those who are patient and persevere!

WELP I just bought one online so RIP wallet!  I'm trying to become a full-time musician so I'm saying this is "for work" smile

Part of my plan for the WB off year is to slowly learn it over the course of a year.  WB has taught me perseverance, for sure!  Maybe WB 2024 for me will be incorporating the OT every week!

Thanks for your advice and encouragement, and mostly - the great music you made

[FML, I literally took advice from someone called Tom Foolery RIP me]

Ahaha congratulations! I think incorporating it into every weeklybeat for a year would be a very achievable and useful exercise! There's a lot to explore on it!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the music and I hope you enjoy the octatrack!

Ahaha Tom Foolery is at an all time high
