Another fun patch with experimental sounds. This week i wanted to experiment with Karplus-Strong style synthesis, using a delay pinged with noise to make a string-like sound. Turns out my delay is a little too long and dirty to pull it off as intended, but i liked the sounds i had put together around that and put together this performance with the Karplus-Strong voice devolved into a pad sound. I had a lot of fun performing this one, and there's a fair amount of knob fiddling during the performance, which is slightly unusual for me, especially on the kick sound.
‹ Patch Notes
For this patch, 1 tick = 1/8 note. Main clock from Make Noise wogglebug. Clock is multed into 4ms RCD and Pittsburgh Modular Game System on the euclidean sequencer mode, 3 into 8. RCD's 8 out is going to trigger the reset on the game system, and the 16 tick auto-reset is on for RCD.
Ring Pad
Sequence pattern is the euclidean rhythm from Game System, firing a Makenoise Maths envelope which is opening a channel on Intellijel uVCA. The VCA is processing the output from the 4ms Spectral Multiband Resonantor. SMR's resonance or Q is modulated from manually triggered Pressure Points. This varies the source sound from close to white nose to very ringy. That then goes through the Pittsburgh Analog Replicator with pretty high feedback, making the pad-y texture.
Kick
2 and 7 out from RCD are combined and trigger a maths envelope. That's then multed into the Intellijel uVCA channel, Doepfer A-124 Wasp filter CV2 in, and the FM input on Intellijel Dixie II. The 'zig-zag' out from Dixie goes into the filter, then the VCA. Additional modulation in the "More Modulation" section below.
Snare
4 and 5 out from RCD trigger the Pittsburgh Envelope. Noise out from Make Noise's Telharmonic goes into Optomix, modulated by the envelope. The quantized CV out from Rene is going into the degree parameter on the Telharmonic, and centroid parameter is being modulated from the random voltage out on Game System.
Wonky Lead
Mangrove is getting a lot of modulation. Math's sum output goes into the intelljel uFold, and then into the mangrove air input. Air is set to open and close somewhat aggressively, getting some clipping at the peaks of the CV. Makenoise STO is FMing, with some index modulation from Mutable Instruments' Peaks in turing machine mode. The inverted pattern from PGH game system goes into the cycle input on AntiMatter's brainseed. The seed in is an attenuated smooth random from Wogglebug. Seed out goes to Magrove's 1v/o in, and trigger out from Brain Seed and the burst out from Wogglebug go into Circuit Abbey's Twiggy voltage multiplier module, which in this case is basically serving as a an AND logic gate. That new trigger goes to Tiptop's Z4000 ADSR, creating an envelope that opens a channel on optomix. That then through the Audio Damage Aeverb for a little space.
More Modulation
Two turing machines from Peaks are getting clocked from the main clock and RCD's 3 out. As mentioned above one turing machine is changing the FM index in the Wonky Synth voice. The other is going into intelijel uScale, which is feeding needlessly quantized CV into STO (the fm source for mangroves/wonky) and also the pittsburgh envelope fall CV in. Rene's gate x and y are going into the SMR's rotate CCW and CW trigger ins. Pressure points providing a human touch here. That's is tweaking the resonance/Q on SMR, the rise and fall of the kick envelope, and the tuning of the kick oscillator. The touch gate out is also triggering re-seed on brainseed for the wonky synth melody.
