Ever since i got into modular snyths, my goal was to create long evolving generative rhythms and melodies. That's what you get this week, thanks to a borrowed Grids from scottux with a lovely custom panel and some prime number divisions from the 4MS RCD in "gate mode". Again, a live performance with only a tiny bit of safety compression on the mix.
‹ Patch Notes
I won't get super detailed this week, but here's some of my favorite parts, and how the generative drum sequence is working.
Generative Drum Sequence:
Make Noise Rene and Pressure Points with Brains are going into the x and y map controls on Grids. Rene is in snake mode, and the x clock is getting triggered from the 1/8 division of the master clock/gate. Brains is triggered from the 2nd output of Grids (also used for the kick sound), which is advancing the step on Pressure Points. The third gate output from pressure points is also triggering the y clock in on Rene, further adding complexity.
Robot Voice
The source is one of the starter samples from the Radio Music, but "chopped up". The start is being set by Antimatter Brain Seed, which is fed an attenuated source from Wogglebug. Reset on the Radio Music and Cycle on Brain Seed are both triggered from the /7 out from RCD. That trigger is also firing the envelope to the AniModule DD VCA. I'm also ring(ish) modulating through the DD VCA's mod input.
Kick
I discovered recently that the Make Noise Telharmonic does fun things when you turn the Tonic and Degree controls all the way down. The noise source for the kick is the "N" output from there, going into the other channel of the DD VCA. Grids output 2 is firing the envelope, and the Accent from that grids channel is tweaking the Interval parameter on Telharmonic for some subtle variation.
Polyrhythmic Elements
There's two chimey percussive-ish things going on, which are triggered from the /3 and /5 outputs from RCD. The /3 sound is SMR getting LPG'd through optomix. The /5 sound is a saw wave passed through uFold, with the fold and offset params getting CV from various places.
Cow Bell?:
I don't know exactly how to describe this sound, but it's a noise source from Quantum Rainbow getting ring modulated with the output from the Snythrotek APC in Circuit Abbey's Twiggy.
Rain/Sizzle:
The last trigger out from Pressure Points is triggering a long envelope which opens a VCA for some noise from Quantum Rainbow getting ring modulated with the H output from the down Telharmonic.
