Sleep

Week 15/Song 8

I told myself when I started this challenge to do just that...challenge myself. Challenge myself to finish songs, to explore, to make mistakes, to learn, to grow, to have fun, to struggle, to step away when needed but to keep coming back.

Well, I'm back and I'm excited to have dusted off a song I began years ago when I began really listening to my body and learning the importance of sleep. It was also a time where I was beginning to learn that my sleep patterns (as I'll call them) weren't normal. As I worked to finish this song I remembered the frustrations I had when I originally begin writing it and how much more I know now, but also still relate. I also remember struggling so much with hitting the high notes and trying to work out the piano part. I guess I just needed some more sleep to finally finish it.

Here's wishing you all peaceful rest.

Lyrics:
The day is over.
I can not sleep.
Anxieties haunt me,
making me feel weak.

Shadows are moving
across the walls.
Paranoias looming
messing up my vibe.

When will I...
When will I...
When will I...
ever sleep.

I close my eyes tight
and count some sheep.
1 2 3 4 5
and then repeat.

White noise is playing.
It drowns the world.
Sleep it calls me,
but I can't sleep.

When will I...
When will I...
When will I...
ever sleep.

When will I...
When will I...
When will I...
ever sleep.

Beautiful!! The tone really captures the frustration and anxiety of not being able to rest your mind enough to sleep well. I love the way the vocals weave together at the end, and the way the verses are quiet but then it's punctuated with loud piano (WAKE UP) between the verses. Well done!

the two note motif feels like a clock ticking away as the sleepless hours pass

the juxtaposition of the word "sleep" sung loudly also tells the story of the frustration

loved when the wind came in!  nice ending with the backup vocals
