Week 8/Song 6 (more fun with loops and discovering session player) - I started out this week attempting to finish a song I began almost 20 years ago (a love song that only one other person has heard what I have so far). I found myself becoming increasingly frustrated at myself for not being able to simply follow the clicks of a metronome. Timing and tempo are my nemesis, yet they are a pivotal part of making music. As I kept working at it I had the bright idea of adding a simple drum rhythm to help me out. Well, that lead me back into the rabbit hole of loops and sounds so I decided to go a different direction...after all, I already waited over 20 years to finish the love song so I figure I have at least 20 more to do so. AND that lead me to creating a song about not being able to find the beat and wanting to feel comfortable and at ease with the clicks of the metronome but instead feeling like it is a shackle...making me painfully aware that I can not find the beat. To my bandmates, I will keep trying to find it.

Metronome Lyrics:

I hear the beat in my head, yet I can’t seem to find the beat.
That metronome keeps a swinging back and forth, but it don’t mean a thing to me.

I don’t know what’s going on, why I hear this song.
I can’t seem to figure out how to keep on beat, oh yeah.

It keeps playing in my head, driving me insane.
Playing round and round, but I can’t find my way.

Where’s the beat?
Where’s the beat?
Where’s the beat?
Where’s the beat?
Where’s the beat?
Where’s the beat?
Where’s the beat?
I can’t seem to find the beat!
Oh metronome, why you foolin’ me?

Steady. Steady. Steady.
Time for me to breathe now.
Steady. Steady. Steady.
Time for me to listen.

Find the beat!
Find the beat!
Find the beat!
Find the beat!
Find the beat!
Find the beat!

Find the beat!
Find the beat!
Find the beat!
Find the beat!

Oh metronome, why do you chain me?
Oh metronome, I wish you were my home.

whoa!  this is really cool and creative use of the loops - that electric guitar riff is super catchy

also i also completed some 15/20 year old songs for WB so I feel u there

excited to hear that song in 20 years!

FIND THE BEAT! heart

That's awesome, way to come full circle! Great job, and thanks for sharing.

With a voice like that, who needs a steady beat? (Loved the cow bell metronome)

If I heard this song on the radio tomorrow I wouldn't question it. This song has got "pop hit" written all over it! (That guitar riff though!)

Highly Relatable!!! thank you
