The Jade Warrior

CC always accepted!

Got really in my head about this one, instead of letting things flow naturally I forced somethings which I feel made for a worse song - BUT I REALLY like the instrumentation and my use of orchestrated samples.

I re-recorded the vocals like an hour and change before the deadline >_>

The song was inspired by a news article about a sword that was found in Turkey by a metal detectorist - from close to the end of the bronze age that was found upright, and the oxidation made it look Jade, so I made up a story about The Jade Warrior who gave up after failing a quest and this is his song smile

I'm proud of a LOT on this track, and not proud of almost as much, I feel I tried too hard on the vocals - which are generally best when I relax and have fun rather than forcing my voice to sound 'cool' but - on to the next one!

I really like the selective use of panning/layering with the vocals, and (live commenting, but) DANG that part at about 5:20 with the swells is crazy. Great work!

If I am welcome to share a thought—one I must preface has NO say on what your overall view on making music or even that you need to think about other people’s thoughts. I definitely have been thinking recently your lyrics need some more processing on it, but I am not sure what that is. Maybe not in every song, but while I am sharing this thought I am thinking of this spot where the voice does not sound like it’s with the orchestra. Part of it is the tuning, part of it is the blending, part of it is the timbre of your vocal performance staying in one sound world. It’s all a journey, and maybe my bias comes from how crazy I make everything sound, but I would love to hear you try blending your voice to the song in more ways. Maybe different effects, maybe chopping, maybe recording chords, maybe more duets with yourself, repitching your voice to get a new character.

I know your own voice comes with the limitations of being a human voice, so it makes a comment like mine have less merit still.

Do you wanna do a collab track together? I would love to work in your sound world.

i like the stomp clap - makes me think of MJ's "They Don't Care About Us"
