Moment

Tried some more stuff with vocals. Initially I was creating this in GarageBand, but found I was running into some limitations (not being able to simply side-chain for example). I bit the bullet and decided to sell my Microfreak so I could buy Logic Pro. Good news is that Logic can open GB files so it was easy enough to transfer over. Right now I'm feeling like my workflow is geared towards really utilizing a DAW, so I'm excited to learn more about what I can do with it.
I still feel like a noob when it comes to DAWs, there's just so much--so many options, the screen is just full of icons and menus and labels and I have no idea what so many of them mean, it feels overwhelming. There are many moments when I know exactly what I want to do, but have no clue how to do it--really simple stuff like fading in effects to multiple tracks. Learning about audio busses and routing and the project started to feel like a mess, everything felt so disorganized and it's hard for me to keep track of what things do what, so I sort of gave up on a lot of things that I would have liked to do with this track.
I'm still happy with the result, but after a while I was getting frustrated and just wanted to be done with it. I think for my next track I need to learn more basics in Logic like how to keep things organized and some keyboard shortcuts.
For this track I used my Hydrasynth, ukulele, some VSTi's, Shure SM57, and stock drum loops. I really wanted to incorporate my M8, but wasn't sure how it could fit in with everything else. Pretty excited about being able to send MIDI to the Hydra! First time ever using MIDI out from my computer to control a synth. So neat! Still figuring out a good way to get vocals to sound consistent in the mix.
It’s also been a fun challenge to try and write lyrics. I don’t really have anything prewritten. Instead I’ll loop a section and then just sort of start singing complete jibberish until I hear some string of sounds that feel good together. Then I’ll listen to that jibberish and try to refine them into coherent words. Then those words might begin to reveal some kind of story, so then I use that as a foundation for the rest of the lyrics.
Lyrics:
Take a moment
Risin up to sun
I think I lost your number
In motion
I wanna forget the things I think I needed
And I need to get out today on my own
Omen around us
I know what it causes
A loss in adjusting
Believing in something
How was it
How could it
I thought I understood it
Is this all for nothing
Corrupting my head
I think I'll
Take a moment
Risin up to sun
I think I lost your number
In motion
Caught at a one way street
I gotta find my footing
I wanna never need
Maybe that's why I'm losing
So I'll
Take a moment
Risin up to sun
I think I lost your number
In motion
