Light & Dark

Spent the last few days sourcing Kingdom Hearts dialogue and vocals. Been really inspired to try and pitch correct them so they feel more melodic. I ended up with sooooo many samples and have been excited to use them! Today I woke up eager to get this track going and ended up with this. I almost used all the instrument slots on the M8, which until now I don't think I've ever gotten close to the limit. The new EQ feature on the M8 was great to be able to dial in the vocals. Love this device so much.

This is SO GOOD. You are a master of vocal chops, and the bright, swirling sounds here are VERY in line with Kingdom Hearts. This needs to be on the soundtrack of the next game.

Full of heart.

That's pretty rad, when you're sourcing the samples how do you go about it? I don't use samples very often but I was dabbling in trying to build a sample collection a while back and I was using a loop back method (basically line in jacks from my audio interface plugged back into the same audio interface's auxiliary speaker outputs) so that I could just play a game and turn the game music down and hit the record button on my midi controller when trying to capture certain sounds. Granted, that's all for PC gaming, I'd have no idea how to do it for console games. It's been SOOOO long since I've played Kingdom Hearts, but I loved it back when the 2nd game came out (lol I'm probably sooo out of the loop).

Also, song goes off at 2:40.

Sometimes I'll sample straight in the M8 or (now) the SP404. Other times I'll record straight from my computer into Logic, then import those samples onto another device. With this track there are actually a ton of YouTube videos that is just certain character dialogue from the game. So I let the playlist run while recording directly into Logic. Then I listened back and picked the interesting bits and did some pitch correction. Then from there put those samples onto the M8 for sequencing.
