The Broken Man's Perseverance (Clubbed Foot Runner Revisited)

By Techmonkey on April 20, 2014 5:15 pm

Decided to revisit a previous song with skills picked up over the past few months. Vocals sound strained, but at least have that desperate feel I was looking for. So yeah, singing outside my range. ;D Trying to learn how to EQ and mixdown for consistent clarity and balance. Any critiques on what might have been done differently is much appreciated!

There is nothing....

So now you know and now you see
There is nothing left of me
I can't tell you who it is I used to be

Days go by, I'm all alone
I pick up the telephone
But it's only silence on the other side.

Now we're all alone
Now we're all alone
Now we're all alone again

Divide and conquer, Isolate!
Fill out minds with fear and hate
And always tell us who we're supposed to be

Staring at our tiny screens
Always tied to our machines
Much safer than the world that waits outside

Now we're all alone
Now we're all alone
Now we're all alone again

Reminds me of 80s electronica, Front 242, Sisters of Mercy (both of which I like). So it's bleak, but I think that's what you're going for... and has a nice hypnotic feeling to it. If I were to change anything is make the beat a little straighter because the rest of the song is already relatively non-catchy.

And yes, I sometimes get the feeling that everything in America is completely f**ed up :-)

Definitely has a dark almost industrial feel to it.  I think the "strained" vocals suit it well though.  The reverby effect you've added to them is nice.

I'm intrigued! Nice mix of big bass on the kick, ambient synths in the back, and eerie vocals! It works!

Thanks very much for the feedback. Was definitely going for bleak and desperate, so it sounds like I got there. Agree the beat could be straightened out a bit, but for some reason it just really caught my ear. Gave me the image of someone just staggering along full steam despite being left behind. Yeah. I get strange mental images. ._. big_smile
