Juke inspired for this week. I saw the redbull music academy interview with dj rashad and dj spinn then some footwork videos and for a few days it blew my mind and that's all I listened too. I'm still amazed by it, this is my attempt at creating something similar to it. I really tried to copy it at least at the beginning to try to learn from their well developed and unique style. This is almost never how I go about making electronic music but It thought it fit this week.

This also made me think about music communities and how sometimes the more insular and ignorant of the outside world they are the more amazing music they make. They mentioned in the interview that they hadn't heard of much electronic music outside of chicago or detroit when they were making juke, and I think it shows. They didn't have a thousand direct electronic music influences so they had to make their own thing. I guess what I'm getting at is that's not really a possibility for us but how can we get some of that spirit in our music?

No matter how much you try to do something different, I find it still comes out sounding like you (through a combination of habit, and not being part of that milieu). If you're looking for an isolated environment, disconnecting from the internet would be a start. But not something I would want to do.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, your piece may not be "juke," but it's still a good piece smile
