4' 33

By tatecarson on February 27, 2014 11:58 pm

This week was a result of my audio interface having a freak accident, leaving me with no way to monitor my mix. So I was looking for an alternate way to make a piece of music and I stumbled upon the newly released 4' 33" app for the iphone. This is a little processed, which isn't in the spirit of the piece i know, but who cares? I think everyone on here is doing this so they can break a few rules, even ones laid out by an exemplary rule breaker such as John Cage.

Yes, the classics never die.

A couple of coughs would be nice

What does the app do? Just record whatever is going on?

It splits the recordings into the preset lengths for each movement, and puts a 10 second break in between each of them. It also lets you geotag them and upload them to their site, there are many others from around the world you can listen to. It doesn't really do anything a normal recording app can't do but this just makes it automated, which is perhaps more in the spirit of the original piece, Cages idea of surrendering to chance and not thinking about the outcome.

Aha, excellent.

4' 33 will never die.  Hah.

I was wondering who would make the first 4'33 in this weeklybeats project: you did! Congrats!
