Where Are You Now

I tried a bit of a more conventional song structure this week, and to have a strong melody line running through. I'm pretty happy with the result, but I found it hard to balance adding elements to build out the song to support the melody, without going of course and burying it in layers. It also didn't help that the starting motif was the genesis of the song and while it lead me to the melody I came up with, it also battled for attention in the song. Mixing is hard!

This works really well--strong melody, but also a compelling chord progression. Good stuff!

This is lovely! The melody carries the track easily without overwhelming everything, and you've got a nice balance with the other elements. The hardest thing I've run into with music is knowing when to add nothing. Adding/removing elements is probably more important than creating all of the lego blocks you need. It's like building a house without windows - you need that space to let in some fresh air and light. I think you've done that nicely!
