Quarterly Suite No. 1 "Gem" - I. Prelude

By sylcmyk on January 19, 2014 11:59 pm

read-along/downloadable sheet music

I had a dream about gems and jewels and decided to write a little piece about it. It also gave me the idea to start on some piano suites like Rameau and Bach, but with a modern twist!

***Oh no sad I just realized that I only uploaded a portion of the audio by accident! Although the audio starts on measure 11 here's a link to the entire piece: http://soundcloud.com/sylcmyk/quarterly … no-1-gem-i

yeah...it kind of sucks that you can't check the audio once again before it is set to public. I just noticed my audio file had a few seconds of silence and beeps at the end...ah well.

I am loving the piano piece! I think I will try to print it out and try playing it myself.

big_smile At least now I know to be more poised for the future! Also let me know how it goes.

kicking it oldschoooooool with this one.  makes me wish i treated my brief stint in music theory lessons with more rigour!

Very much enjoyed this. Slight bummer about the upload, but what can ya do. I'd appreciate the ability  to preview a track before it goes live as well smile

Thanks RoccoW!

I always tell my students that music theory is a blessing and a curse. I usually end up just cursing!

Wow, this is something really special. I'm double majoring in Computer Science and Music and adored my theory classes, and I really appreciate these beautiful chord progressions you've used here. Every part of this, from the little cadences on the A part, to the parallel chords in the middle, to those seventh chords in the coda leading up to that perfect ending... I haven't been this fired up over a song in a while now. I might be a sucker for descending bass and I don't listen to a lot of piano music (or anything classically inspired to be honest), but I find this composition magical and thank you sincerely for sharing it.

Oh, forgot to mention that your performance was top-notch as well, and really brought this all to life. Amazing stuff all around!

Love this neo-classical style. Looking forward to hear more of your stuff dude smile Having the sheet music around is awesome too!

Ah, thanks hombre! It took me a good minute to notate everything down but come the end of this year's first quarter I'll have everything re-notated to look legit, like an urtext. Haha!

I really enjoy being able to listen to music and read a score. There's something very rewarding about it. As I said already, lovely to see dots on lines here, really lovely! And your sense of harmony from that era is very, very good. Not to mention your melody crafting is also excellent. Bravo.
