Approximate Reconstruction

I picked up a microcassette recorder from Savers today for $4. It's like a bazillion years old, the batteries are dying, and it sounds like utter shit. AND it already had a recording in it, so of course the first thing I did was sample it. Time for a "found sound" piece with Reactable.

From what I can tell, the recording is of someone repeatedly reciting a poem. Not sure if it's an original or somebody else's but it seems to be about a person who died. I guess perhaps they were rehearsing for something, maybe a funeral.

This is so cool. It sounds really industrial to me somehow, very much reminiscent of central europe in the 1940s or something. I wonder why that man was practicing this, that's a really great find heart
