Leaving the Pond

I got some new toys - a digitakt ii and a digitone ii! Very eager to learn how to use them, but that's gunna take more than a week, so I needed to churn something quick out with Ableton to buy myself some breathing room. Doodled out a simple wee-I'm-learning-piano type melody which seemed to want to keep climbing and climbing, so I let it do just that in a fat crescendo of a piece! For ambience, ended up adding a recording of frogs I took outside my workplace, putting that through a shifting set of resonators and effects. For the bass, I used a recording of my cat meowing which I stretched and chopped into something wavetable-suitable, though you can't really identify it as a field recording in the end.
When coming up with a name I wanted something that represented the fact that, although it is a quickie sketch of a piece, it marks a transition to a new and unfamiliar style of music-making. Something about the ribbits did it for me, and I realized it's kinda like a frog leaving the pond for the first time. So here we are! Ribbit. Don't expect too much next week either though as I start learning these new doo-dads.
