Spinning Wheels (WB12)

I had to try out the sitar on a new track even though I'm still fumbling through learning how to use it. Tuning it was hard enough!

Went with the same workflow this week jotting down some lyrics midweek, sketching some chords and setting it aside for a couple days. Came back on Saturday and layered some computer drums, DI guitar, DI bass, testing out some sleigh bells for percussion and did a rough mix. Came back and laid in the vocals and played around on the sitar for a few takes. Eventually found a lick I liked and focused on that for most of the song. After mixing it together, I decided I wanted some thicker vocals so I recorded a lower octave and a higher monotone harmony part. I quite enjoyed working on this one and I like how this weeks track turned out for the most part.

Lyrics:

Fruitlessly searching
Hopelessly yearning
For a prize we can't define

To what end are we to left to roam the horizon?
Sally forth! The vanguard leaves
Knowing only what's behind them

Finding a way
To press on the next day
Thinking all that we're loosing is time

To what end
Are we to be left
To roam the horizon?

Sally forth!
The vanguard leaves
Knowingly only
What's behind them

The sitar is just as detuned as the vocals and it goes together so, so well. I love it (no cap).

That sitar sound is extraordinary. I love how you made it meet a more western type of music and it just works well! I am looking forward to hearing more ideas you will develop with it in the future!

Oh my gosh it's amazing! Well done! All the layers are making a delicious mess, the guitar gives the sitar a good background. Cool matching beat too.

I loke the intro altho it felt pretty chaotic hearing it first. I like that it comes in strong, doesn't wait with a big buildup. For this track it makes sense this way, at least maybe cause we had a sitar expectation hahah. Oh and nice singing! Gonna listen again to understand the lyrics hehe

Love it, love this mix of instruments in this. The bass and sitar work will together. Love the vibe. Its very you! wink

Super catchy song with a superb note of a colourful sitartune. Love this songs of yours.

Sweet track, always appreciate a detailed look into the process too

thanks! really the hardest part about all of it was getting the guitars and sitar tuned together. I had to push the Sitar toward its upper limit and tuned down guitar and bass by a half step to Db :-X

I have been trying to cut the fluff out of my songs. Thanks for noticing!

If I had to say what the song is about, I think the song is a crude rumination on the search for purpose in life.

Thanks! I really love the way the bass and the sitar sit together too! Something about the bass being a unapologetically solid foundation that the sitar sometimes lacks in its classical context.

Thanks! I'm trying to work on my vocal line writing to really express the song well and make it relatable. I'm glad it came out catchy! smile

Thanks! I like to document this stuff sometimes just because I'm likely to forget myself ^^' glad you get something out of it too!

That's a good way to put it, cutting out the fluff. I'm practicing that too.
