Augury of a Certain Kind (WB03)

If I keep trying to make this better I'm never going to finish it. Its about as good as its gonna get for this round lol

I wrote this song last year and put down a quick phone recording for myself. Finally got around to fleshing it out. Mixing acoustic instruments and vocals is a completely different world from mixing electronica. Singing performance was maybe not as tight as I might have liked it but that's what I'm working with today. The guitar part is really fun to play cause you can just slam the open strings for most the song

Lyrics:

I'm waiting for you to clarify that waning look, that wistful sigh
To come right out and say, "its time and I'm yours!"
Whatever that means

It might not matter what I say but I'm going to state it anyway
It cannot wait another day
You're beautiful!
How's that for certainty?

I've seen how low people can treat us when their backs against the wall
I guess that what I'm saying is nothing at all

(CH)
Do you ever get lonely when everyone's laughing and so much is happening?
You love rivers and freedom and stars in the evening by the fire
If were looking we'll find it I'm sure

You look to the sky for some sort of sign
Some passer by
Some meteor line
Some augury of a certain kind
But its in your hands!
Its right in the leaves of your tea!

I've seen how low people can treat us when their backs against the wall
I guess that what I'm saying is it isn't that far!

I like the vocals. trying to go for the higher register and it works!

I like it, it sounds raw and authentic.

I'm in a similar boat, t just mixed vocals from my wife and even that was a whole different beast from just mixing beats haha.

Sounds great and raw. I like the melody line it's going up and down and not just following the chord tones heh. I like the sort of semi anxiety of the main voice in the lyrics, I can def resonate with the feeling. Nice work, thank you for this song!

There is something about a simple vocal plus guitar track, recorded in a simple way. It's direct, true, and simple. Love it.

It really is a different world! Compressors and EQs don't really behave the same way I'm used to lol. Room noise and signal noise are very different animals too

Thank you! There was definitely some meandering going on with the vocals. The anxiety is all natural :-D

It really isn't something you hear a ton of these days. Trying to get back to my roots I suppose smile

I have such a hard time singing things that I can't "get behind". If I can't sing it like I mean it, its not worth singing wink

so cute, make me happy
