This One's For Me

By sounddevisor on January 19, 2014 6:36 pm

A funky tune for my groove-jazz project. Recorded in Ableton Live; sounds are from Ableton's library (clavinet) and Kontact (Scarbee MkI, Scarbee Jaybass, Abbey Road 70's drummer.

Oh hell yes.  Totally scratching the Headhunters itch here.

Nice, this is so jazzy... Love it.

very smooth man. nice work.

although i got a little confused towards the end when it suddendly sounded like 2 pianos were layered. maybe transpose up an octave? but that's just me.

This is so groovy! great work.

v nice. 'infectious groove' ? May I ask what's your piano sound, real audio or patch?

Thanks, Damon (and everyone else!) The piano sound(s) are both softsynths - the Rhodes is Kontact playing the Scarbee Mk1 sample library, and the lead/solo sound is an Ableton library sound - I think from teh Electric module, but honestly I don't remember right now.

I actually have "real" instruments in my studio (Rhodes, Wurly, grand piano, etc.) but to get this track done in time I opted for speed and convenience.

Thanks so much, onezero! Herbie and the Headhunters is one of my favorite all-time bands, so that is about the highest-order compliment you could give me!

You're welcome!  It feels like a great lost outtake to me.
