WEEK 24 - SONG 24 - THEMINS

By SAWFAY on June 17, 2012 10:58 pm

Hey! I just managed to get this one up in the nick of time. YAY! I think this is my 2nd contribution to Weekly Beats. Though I've been writing an original song every week, all year, so far. I've been running from Monday to Monday, so a day out of synch with this site. I worked hard this weekend though! I pushed myself to get this one nailed by Midnight, Sunday! More of this sort of thing!

This track is in 4 movements.
1 A short 'sketch' featuring two quite paranoid characters.
2 An ambient soundscape, delving deeper into the theme of the sketch, (or perhaps pulling away from it)
3 A percussive, free, open space still tinkering around with a bit of melancholy, but fighting it
4 A wiped out groove and dramatic score to blow all the cobwebs away and lift the mind

This track was created in Ableton Live and Reason.

I used some of the free Ableton instruments and effects from DETUNIZED.com, I created a few patches in Operator and got slicey with a couple of chunky beat loops from a Vengeance collection. Also incorporated a few home brewed drum rack kits. Synth things were washed out, chopped and resampled in places. Beats were piano roll programmed and drawn in, lots of layering / compressing / EQ-ing / processing. Lots of other things were processed and resampled a lot too.

I started this track on Thursday night, Friday afternoon, into the evening I worked pretty hard on it. Saturday I worked on the beats and the final arrangement. Tonight I added more synth stuff in the 4th movement (beats), couple other wee tweaks. Hey presto!

Hope y'all enjoy.

Feel free to ask any Qs on my production, I'm very happy to share with likeminded folk!

Cheers
