The Grind

By Sam on January 22, 2012 7:03 pm

The Grind
Stormclouds roll in as the air gets colder
This is getting old, I feel even older
Wind's picking up, thunder is frightening
Gotta suffer through the rain to stick around for the lightning

Sick of waiting and I'm tired of the grind
Sick and tired of spinning wheels, biding my time
People ask if I'm okay I say I'm doing just fine

Ain't got no time, ain't got no money
All out of everything so don't ask me, honey

Sick of waiting and tired of the grind
Sick and tired of standing still, wasting my time
I try to keep my cool but I think I'm losing my mind

Try to push forward, it's like pulling teeth
I've got to get back to the shore but I'm caught up in a reef

Sick of waiting and tired of the grind
Sick and tired of standing still, wasting my time
I've been looking for something but there's nothing to find

Another guitar/vocals/LSDJ song, I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone this week and try something different, both in style and in lyrical content. Most of my songs are goofy, so I needed some help with the lyrics, and Dave Richardson stepped up to the plate with some great advice, thanks Dave! I also tried out several different vocal styles, the first of which was just way too much yelling and led me to record this more subdued take, which I prefer. I hope you like it!

Great work Sam! I really like the way this came out, the production is excellent. Looking forward to next week's new Sam song!

Thanks Dave, and thanks for the help on the lyrics too!

Clever lyrics and nice composition. I think you could play up the guitar component more. Maybe double track and pan the rhythm parts to opposite sides and bump up the volume a bit.  Cool nonetheless!

That's a good idea, I'll try that! I'm still trying to figure out how to get everything to sound good together, mixing is something I definitely need to work on. Thanks Roboctopus!
