Horrible Wonderful Beautiful Wilderness

By sad_infamy_sings on May 8, 2022 3:49 am

Did another week of just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. I haven’t been sticking to my ‘play saxophone every day’ idea. So, embouchure still sucks. Also, I keep trapping the tenor recorder in a key it doesn’t like, I can tell it’s mad at me for that.

Lyrics:
She’s lost in the path
It gets Narrower up ahead
“Where the fuck am I?” she says
And all around her the birds are fluttering, they’re flying
Its unsettling.
She follow them to a clearing
Admidst in the middle there is a great big fir tree,
it stands in resonance.
She stands before it,
And all the birds. all the birds
She sits before it, she takes a nap.

Something beautiful
Something wonderful
She travels through the horrible peat,
twigs and thunder all wonder about it,
fly and flutter away
she finds her way through the horrible wonderful beautiful wilderness

The low notes of the recorder have an uncanny sound: it's awesome. Also, anyone who writes things like "all around her birds are fluttering and flying. it's unsettling" is 100% my-kinda-frequency.

The "something beautiful / wonderful" section (and the ending overall) is amazing, the hard-panning of the voices to vocalize w/ yourself is really cool. Horrible wonderful beautiful I'm keeping: I can use that for many things, starting w/ my nephews. smile

The Sax adds a Coletrane feel to this--Your embouchure is not a lost as you think it is!  You have a "control"  that is at the core of your training that gives voice to the resonance of the fir tree. Recorders are the birds-- they flutter-- and amaze me!  Your voice is a treasure.  You are in your vocal prime!  -- and is it ever so wonderful!

Thanks ilzxc! Glad something came out of last week, I was really lacking inspiration- I decided to riff off of this one story I wrote 10 years ago about this kid who gets lost in the forest. It's actually a pretty terrifying story and the birds are possessed by demons. Hahaha, so that's where that comes from. Awww hahaha kids are always a mixture of horrible and wonderful aren't they?

Aw, thanks mom- though I think I'm going to have to disagree with you on that XD But, I appreciate your confidence in me. Yeah! I was thinking that all the spamming recorders could be the birds, they're a bit extra and overwhelming in the track, which lines up with how they are supposed to be unsettling and unpleasant. It's kind of like, an overwhelming beauty (hence the title).

I enjoy the mayhem of music.
