You're Up, You're Down, You're Underground

By roboctopus on January 13, 2018 11:49 pm

This started out as a backing track for some weird ambient guitar (running my guitar through the MS-20 with weird envelopes, LFOs, filters, into delay). Then I decided to add melody, wrote an LSDJ part, and before I knew it I was writing generic dance music. I got interested in the idea of making it sound wide open at first and then less and less so as the track went along, ending in an anticlimax.

So here's some generic dance music with an underwhelming ending!

LSDJ synced to Novation Circuit.

I've always loved your tunes and this definitely does not disappoint, smooth af heart

Good track... like where it goes. Get's really crazy in the last half. Da bass!

I think you added a nice variety of elements that made it less generic (I particularly liked the harmony - especially the last chord)

ain't no party like an antiparty cuz an antiparty stops suddenly.

really into the second section of this particularly, the sampled guitars are fantastic. also melody, as always, is incredibly on point. super beautiful downward turns / pitch bends.

Oh ish, this is FRESH

far from generic big_smile  love the fx and tones you get out of this one

Got that 'octo sound

love that bass!

Yeah, I'm not hearing "generic."
I'm waiting for you to record some live drums!

the way you go from one musical idea to another without any stalling is exactly my kind of jam!

I also like how you end a lot of melody/chord phrases with really high harmonic tension but don't always necessarily resolve back to home, it works harmonically even though I never know where it's going to go!

Yessss so good

Loving that triplet feel. Great stuff robo heart

Sounds great!!!

that sample is so good, gah. love your stuff, been a long time fan! happy to see you're doing weeklybeats, time to check out your week 1 song haha

The triplet part is killer, and as many people said, it's far for generic. Very clever and unexpected use of the guitar.

Now dancing...

romantical

love that lead's sound and progression

yeah that really got me too!

Cool harmonies! It's far from being generic, really (looks like a lot of people already said that big_smile true tho)

How did I miss this last week?! Great stereo design, and very chill harmonic prog!
