The Skeleton King

By roboctopus on January 28, 2018 9:10 pm

So much easier than making chiptune lol.

This week I just wanted to play guitar and bass so I wrote a dumb little song and tacked on a totally unnecessary improv guitar solo. I meant to add some more proper percussion but didn't get around to it. Oh well. Was fun any way.

I used to record lots of weird songs like this before I had kids. It's hard to find time to record real instruments. They're either making lots of noises the mics pick up or they're asleep and I'm trying not to make too much noise lol. In fact, you can hear my kids a time or two haha. They were picked up during an acoustic guitar or vocal take and I just left it in there.

The skeleton king
is following me
says he wants
to set my bones free
he says skin
is a fleeting thing
so why not tear it off and leave it

he's always right behind my back
I glimpsed him in a photograph
mouth wide open in a soundless laugh

The skeleton king
wants to recruit
you for his
skeleton army too
clawing at the door
terrified screams
at least skeletons
don't have bad dreams

Welcome to the bonezone, great deviation from your usual stuff heart Love it

Totally understand having a harder time making tunes after kids! Especially since the times I like to write are usually weekends when I have them.  Nice stuff!

I find this emotional, the kids actually add to the sadness somehow. Good stuff

Great lyrics.

This is wonderful!

I'm in love. I've played it a bunch of times now and linked it to a couple of friends. Great!
Gonna go check out your chiptune!

Dig your style of singing... lyrics are great!

I've always wanted to hear something like this from you! That solo. Hahajaha

really nice piece!

yessss a return to this style! love those tracks you sent me a while ago, particularly "I brought I dinosaur home from the store". lovely lovely tune here, and I'm all about your kids forming part of the ambience, makes the track all the more beautiful.

really into the character of that guitar solo too, love the noise swells padding it out.

love the vibe man. the overdub vocals are great, more like this please!! Your vocals are similar to Elliot Smith a bit smile

That solo was great, no matter what that guy said.

This is the kind of music I made before getting into chiptune actually. I have tons of songs like this. Never knew what to do with them.

Oh yeah! I did send you some stuff! I still make music like this from time to time haha.

The guitar solo has a Reaper delay plugin that like reduces the bit rate as it repeats the delay, so it creates this noise swell as the sample rate gets worse. Sorta cool.
