My 90s Sample CDs Will Go On

Uhhh. This is an experiment. I got one of those MPC Samples last week. Kind of an impulse purchase. It came out, I watched a video, and ordered it on the spot lol. I have been wanting a portable sampler and always wanted to try MPC, so yeah. It's a super fun device, and it's very easy to use, so I'm pretty pleased with it. I am finding I can't do some things I want to do easily (like glitchy abrupt stop/starts) but I think that's more of an MPC workflow thing and not this device. Stuff I could do easily on Octatrack has me scratching my head with this thing a bit haha.

Anyway, I loaded it with a bunch of the cheesiest most 90s sounding sample CDs I could find and paired it with LSDJ for this week. this is a live take, just the game boy manually synced to the MPC and running straight through its input. (manual sync=I pressed play at the same time lol). The MPC has a compressor and a "pumper" effect for sorta sidechaining so the LSDJ is running through those. Kinda cool.

I've never really tried a track like this--it's sort of a chillout/vibey track I guess? I honestly can't tell if I think this is a demo, or if it does exactly what I want it to do and is finished. Lol.

I really enjoyed this! At first I was wondering where the 4-bit crunch went, but reading the description cleared that up. Boy, do I know the feeling of "this isn't finished but I love it and don't really know how to expand on it". Sounds pretty finished to me!
Also, despite the high resolution, I still think this sounds very much like you. The past couple weeks sort of primed me for this one, I guess. This a goal of mine - ditching whatever tool I've been working with and still managing to sound like "me", whatever that is. So I'm extra impressed!

This is a total beach vibe, I want to take my 8 bit Testarossa to the ocean.

Awesome track. That pump on the lsdj sounds super good. Sounds like a really fun and Compact setup

This is some funky 8-bit disco!

That sounds absolutely amazing tbh. The production is so rich, deep and textured. Nailed the compression too, kinda blown out yet everything breathes . gg

Sick combo! Damn the compressors pumping got my brain feelin’ like it’s shrinking and expanding to the beat
