Shallow Pool

By rjlmrq on March 22, 2026 6:54 pm

This week was all about getting distracted, going down rabbit holes (new and old reverb plugins), getting lost, finding irrelevant treasure (I now know how to build a dynamic EQ from native Renoise effects), and then realizing it is Saturday and I still don't have a workable structure. So this one came together at the last minute, which some say is the best minute. I think it is the "good enough" minute. It's called "Shallow Pool" because phrases ramp up to make a jump, over and over again, but they always stop at the edge.

really enjoyed the accents of crackly percussive noisiness near the beginning and all throughout, and the washes of synth, from bassy to trebly all work such beautiful counterpoint, then the beat drives it all perfectly home through an exciting progression of energetic catharsis. nice one!

Thank you! It makes me happy that you mentioned counterpoint -- I spent some time trying to get unrelated sounds to relate to each other.
