Alien Relic

By rjc718 on February 18, 2018 10:35 pm

This is a piece based off a piano lick I wrote awhile back (It was inspired by a guitar solo on a live album of a jam band called Dispatch of all unlikely sources).  As a drummer/percussionist, a lot of my writing tends to start with and revolve around a beat.  To challenge myself, I wanted to do something without a beat.  So I cooked up something that basically featured the piano melody against a low drone, with a lot of swirly electronic noise samples.  The goal again was to use things other than a groove and traditional counter melodies to create interest.

The scene of the piece is supposed to be an astronaut exploring some abandoned alien spacecraft or base.  He finds some sort of artifact with some alien language written onto it.  The big pad swell at the end of the piece is when he opens it, and releases...something.... ;-)

I like all the synth sweeps and swells. Fun narrative to the music smile

It certainly captures the mood.
