A Spring Day Dawning

This was originally the first section of a larger orchestral piece I wrote back in 2007 (before I knew anything about writing for orchestra, and did not have as good of sample libraries). A few sections of this larger work have value as stock film music, so my plan is to redo a few of these sections and up the production value and tweak some of the musical content. The work was inspired by nature documentaries...imagine footage of winter giving way to spring in a national park such as Yellowstone. When I wrote this section, I pictured snow beginning to melt off of tree branches, streams thawing and beginning to flow again, animals emerging from hibernation, etc.
As I rerecorded this piece using a more up to date string library, it occurred to me that if the guitar and cello removed and it were solo violin, it would sound right at home in historical documentaries, perhaps about colonial America. I won't remove these parts for Weekly Beats, but I will definitely create a violin only version in the future.
