Cool, I like this.

Quirky is an apt tag.
Any insight into the aleatoric methods used?

the meshing of the two sounds is perfect. aleatoric composition works so well with them

I like the "get drunk to Zappa" tag. This is awesome. What was your process? Real marimba or samples?

I can give you insight for sure.  It's a lengthy process though so I'll try cover as much as I can.

I used http://www.random.org/dice/ to essentially roll 2 virtual dice 12 times and then added the result of each roll.  The results were

4   6 = 10
5   3 = 8
6   1 = 7
5   6 = 11
2   2 = 4
5   3 = 8
1   1 = 2
6   6 = 12
4   4 = 8
3   6 = 9
3   5 = 8
6   1 = 7

Then thinking of the results in 3 columns, I read columns 1 and 2 down the rows and applied the numbers to frets on the guitar with each row being a different string starting with row one being the high e string.  I then ascended once reaching the lowest register on the guitar.  That was the first marimba part.  And second part was displaced.

The counter melody which comes in with the beats was created in a similar fashion but only using column 3 and the rhythmic variation was taken from the second dice result.  This was then also displaced.  The first rhythm was taken from the first dice result.

The 2nd part of the song (3rd rhythmic variation) got it's rhythm from the 3rd dice roll yet utilised the melody created from column 3.  Parts of the first movement were then reintroduced.

The beats were from a random preset which I printed to audio.  I then sampled the beats into 8th note slices.  There's three beat patterns in the song.  The first one is the original sequence, the second and third ones are sequenced from corresponding marimba parts for each sequence.

And voila!  smile

Cool

I like the dice idea. Maybe i should do something similar, but with a dartboard i happen to have at home.

Beatuiful tunes as always.

A dartboard would be more fun  smile

Thanks for the kind words.

nice sounds, I like the name too.
