Lost Spirits Form Above the Ground

By rdomain on January 27, 2024 11:39 pm

Using the Pulsar 23 as a self-patched generative synth as opposed to a drum machine.  Lyra 8 and Sherman Filterbank for extra dirt and delay.  One take.  I then improvised some guitar over the recording using a Fender Mustang with Guitar Rig.

This is awesome! Reminds me of some of the more minimalist tunes from Diablo II. Great job with the guitar on top, too.

Ahhhh three of my fave instruments. The pulsar sounds amazing (I really need to get a pulsar friend for my Lyra) and I love how all three sound like they're in their own space, echoing into a larger shared reverberation. Delightful.

sick. i just love all the textures

Such a great vibe. The gentle noise swelling in the background does so much for this track.

Love this one! That ambient drone throughout is so rich and complex, really adds to the more melodic elements you layered on top.

Getting orange tinted dusty sunset on the horizon vibes from all the cool textures.  The guitar added a nice touch too.  Like I'm traveling a great distance and seeing a mirage.  The trio of gear sounds so good.

i love your skill at subtlety: the delicate undertone of dissonances, with light sound-design flourishes here and there, and a crafty usage of lofi grit combined with (what sounds like) beautifully-nuanced filtering... words will fail me, but the overall effect is fully immersive beauty heart

Really beautiful use of the Soma instruments. They really shine in long improvised takes especially when done as skillfully as this. This is hot helping my Pulsar GAS which I've been trying to tame for years now smile Use of the filter bank is really cool here too. I keep meaning to explore the use of filter banks in my sound design but haven't got around to it yet. Might need to experiment with some VSTs before going off the deep end. I've had my eye on the Felt Instruments Smugi for a while. Maybe something to experiment with next week.

Your filter manoeuvres are very creepy. I love your sounddesign and the dreamy guitarwork. Excellent

Ah nice.  Haven't played that for many a year!  Thanks for the listen.

Cheers!  I think an element of that would be the Sherman as it can really highlight certain frequencies.

Ah, beautiful and yes; I wanted to add another element and I'm heading back to work next week (instrumental teacher) so I thought I'd break out the guitar seeing I had a break from it over the long holidays!

Thanks so much for the feedback.  Really appreciated.  There's always a fine balance to achieve such affects and I enjoy that process too fortunately!  Hehe.  Cheers!

Yes the Soma instruments are definitely great for performance and I'd highly recommend the P23.  As for the Sherman Filterbank; it's not actually a 'filterbank' in the traditional sense of the word but a combination of distortion, multimode filters, envelopes, AM and FM.  All in the analog domain.  It's a beast of a thing which would be hard to replicate in software.  It can just add this layer of magic grit and motion whether that's subtle or extreme.  Actual filter banks would work well in either software or hardware I'd say so definitely give it an experiment!  I'm a fan of those too.  smile
And thanks!

Thanking you greatly.  Does that equal creepy dreams?  Hehe.

beautiful Soma and Sherman-infused sounds - I like the title too - enjoyable listen

Guitar is a great addition, excellent movement with the textures and sounds, everything weaves in and out in such a gentle manner.

Inspiring title! We're in NIN Ghost territory there with the huge soundscape of the ghostly wails of the synth and the guitar arpeggios layers. Great atmospheric track.

Captivating ethereality, mystery and intrigue. The title is perfect for this. Great sounds and a great creation from that amazing gear.

Really nice vibe you created with this track. It's calming, but with a tension. The sweeps are great.

one of my favorite week 4 tracks! this is otherworldly
