On & Uninspired

By RawTicks on June 21, 2014 3:05 pm

The lack of inspiration hit hard this week. I felt tired and terribly uninspired, had some frustrations not related to music making but which influenced me, and this is what came out of it... Whatever.

It's getting harder each week for me to keep up. I think I have a concept I could apply for the rest of the year that might help me a bit to keep up... more on that on the 27th week.

As for the track itself, beside being uninspired, one of the things I did was that I tried to exploit sidechain compression, expansion and gating on a droney sound with a beat as a source, to modulate the volume of the drone with the beat, and then remove the beat. That was done in Live, but it's not exactly doing what I was thinking when I had the idea. The concept is worth exploring further I think. In modular terms it could be done easily, using a beat as the amplitude modulation source on a VCA, and maybe sending the beat through a slew limiter before the VCA to smooth the waveform a bit, and sending a drone in the VCA input. This will probably be part of my track next week...

Man, for something "unmotivated" this is extremely solid. Very nicely done, very nicely done indeed. Engaging, interesting and beautiful.

We all hit that uninspiring wall... It happened to me back in WB 2012.

This year I started browsing to my whole folder of unfinished stuff, which came bigger than I expected. Maybe you've got some unfinished stuff too, so you could use it when no idea come in front of the blank canvas.

Hope this helps smile

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I think I was just really tired last week and didn't want to do the weekly beats (I wanted to take a break). It happened to me in the past, will surely happen again.

I'll be further experimenting with the amplitude moulation method described above this week, and this time I had time to organise my thoughts, so I'm hopefull that I'll get to create something more inline with what I have in my head...

that's a wicked growl towards the end!  i liked it and that sound should def be explored again.  smile

Solid track, excited to hear more like this ... but don't forget about the hip hop tracks!  You have some of the best hip hop on weekly beats

good uninspired shit!

Thanks! Although we aren't a lot to rap here... I wonder what happened to Sam&Janx?

You got some awesome sounds in here. Congrats on pushing through the lack of inspiration with a nice piece.

Love that phrase "Making chaos in an organized way" :] and love the chaos!!!

I like it man in any case. Do you have a modular system ?
This kind of work I use to do these days. Less indus thus.
Don't give up, your work is really good !
